Fried food for breakfast? Why not! I personally do not eat a lot for breakfast, but those few pieces of cakes, biscuits or other sweets such as the homemade donuts must take me to heaven. Starting the day from the right breakfast is a must, isn’t it?
These homemade donuts remind me my childhood. Know that the curd is really common in Lithuania, so it is very likely that if you taste the donuts made locally, their main ingredient will be the curd.
The curd is not quite so common in Italy though. Once I was craving for donuts, and had to figure out how to replace the ingredient that does not exist in Italy. The MAIN ingredient! So after a few attempts, I decided to replace the curd with the ricotta cheese and curd cheese (nope, it is not the same as curd). The homemade donuts turned out amazing! Isn’t it lovely when you can make one of your favorite sweets abroad not having the main ingredient? It DOES make one happy, trust me 🙂
Making these homemade donuts is as easy as 1, 2, 3. It is mixing all the ingredients, and frying the donuts. That’s it! No dough raising, no kneading, no forming the donuts. Oh I love quick recipes, I believe delicious food does not necessary have to be difficult-to-make and time consuming!
These homemade donuts are a bit different in shape compared to the American donuts. We Lithuanians actually never fry them in such shape. At the end of the day, it is the flavor that matters, and these donuts are simply O.M.G. You may try to fry them in their “original” shape instead of a roll – really up to you.
What I love about these donuts is that they are great for a coffee break, too! Or just a pass-by bite (shh, don’t tell anyone :D)

Ingredients
Instructions
- In a medium pot, heat the frying oil
- In the meantime, mix all ingredients together
- Take a tablespoon and make tiny rolls, let them into the frying oil
- Fry each homemade donut for approx a minute, then turn the other way (you will notive they turn on their own, too)
Notes
- you may replace curd cheese with the curd
- you may use curd cheese only
- do not overfry the donuts: if they get golden brown too quickly, decrease the heat. It is better to fry them at a lower temperature as letting them fry too quickly may result the center of the donut to be raw
