Ok, I know this is the second sweet recipe in a row! Not sure this is me or the 2021 that is about to change my habits, but I really tend to eat more sweets in this period! So the chocolate salami is yet another sweet that I made. And because it is a super easy recipe, I wanted to share it with you, too.
The interesting thing about this chocolate salami is that we Lithuanians consider it to be one of our traditional sweets. Yet if you search the Internet, it mentions Italy as the origin of chocolate salami. And even Portugal that I personally find weird but oh well. At the end of the day it is not the roots that matter but the FLAVOR! 🙂
I know this chocolate salami since I was a kid. I remember my mom making it at times, and it was one of the most delicious sweets. There are quite many combinations of this chocolate salami, yet the one I share below is my favorite. I like this one because it has some bitter cocoa in it that makes the flavor even stronger (some people make it with dark chocolate instead). And those hazelnuts. Ohhh those roasted hazelnuts (I used hazelnuts from my Grandma’s garden)!
When you make the chocolate salami, you have to let it harden in fridge for a few hours. Yeah, I know it is hard as the kitchen will smell amazing! Be patient and wait a little, every minute is worth it! Best if you leave it in the fridge overnight, you will see how beautiful and tasty it is the day after!

Ingredients
Instructions
- Crash the cookies (I like quite big pieces)
- Take a big saucepan (you will need to pour all your cookies once the mixture is ready) and start heating it up
- Let the butter melt
- Add condensed milk, salt and stir well
- Keep stirring and add cocoa powder
- Let the mixture boil for a couple of minutes (it will harden a bit), then add hazelnuts
- Add your crushed cookies (if your saucepan is not big enough, you can do the opposite, meaning, pour the mixture onto the cookies). All cookies must be well covered by the mixture
- Transpose the dough into a baking tray (the size depends on how high/big you want the chocolate salami to be)
- Squeeze the dough so that the air comes out completely and the dough is evenly spread around the tray
- Keep the chocolate salami in the fridge overnight
